Father’s Day is right around the corner! Celebrate your fantastic father figure with this unique sweet and savory Apple and Cheese Turkey Burger recipe by Cricket Azima and The Creative Kitchen, featured on Archetypes. It’s a new twist on the classic sandwich that the whole family will gobble up! This flavorful patty has an added fun factor — the cheese is built right in. Stretchy, gooey goodness guaranteed, as well as the accompanying smiles.
WORK NOW, PLAY LATER:
Make an additional batch of patties to freeze! Wrap the preformed raw patties individually in plastic wrap and store in the freezer. Simply defrost, cook, and enjoy!
THE MORE THE MERRIER:
Serve with your favorite cheese on top to make a double cheeseburger! Add sliced cheese on top in the last minute of cooking and serve warm.
ROLL WITH IT:
Feel free to roll the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs instead! They are great eaten on their own as an appetizer at parties (a big hit at kid-centric events), turned into a sandwich, served with pasta or on a salad.
1 lb. ground turkey
¼ cup applesauce
½ cup breadcrumbs
¾ cup finely diced apple
¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
Yields 8 patties
1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, egg, applesauce, breadcrumbs, diced apple, shredded cheddar cheese, salt and pepper.
2. Form mixture into 8 equal patties.
3. Grill over medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes on each side, or until cooked completely through. Or cook in a large skillet drizzled with cooking oil for an equal amount of time.
4. Serve on a whole-wheat bun and dress as desired. Enjoy!
